About the Guide
Over the years, one of the most common questions I’ve heard from puppy owners is some version of: “Am I doing this right?” The first year of a dog’s life is full of rapid development, changing behavior, and moments where even experienced owners feel unsure what to do next. While there are many excellent training resources available, I often found myself wanting to provide something more structured for my own puppy families — a guide that explained not just what to do, but why.
This book grew out of that goal. What began as a small collection of notes and training explanations for my LakeHaus puppy buyers gradually expanded into a full first-year roadmap covering the developmental stages, training foundations, and real-world skills that shape a reliable adult dog. Rather than focusing on quick fixes or isolated obedience tricks, the guide emphasizes understanding how dogs learn, building calm habits early, and developing communication that holds up beyond the living room.
Every LakeHaus puppy will now go home with a copy of this guide as part of their puppy packet. My hope is that it serves as a steady reference during those first months — a place owners can turn when they’re wondering what’s normal, what to focus on next, or how to respond when their puppy suddenly seems to forget everything they knew yesterday.
For families who have previously purchased a LakeHaus puppy, you are absolutely welcome to have a copy as well. If you’d like one, just reach out and I’ll be happy to send you the digital version.
Our Books
Kennel Branding Available
While this guide was originally written for LakeHaus puppy families, the structure and principles apply to dogs of many breeds and programs. Because of that, kennel-branded editions are available for breeders who would like to provide the same type of structured resource to their own puppy buyers.
A kennel-branded version allows the guide to be customized with your kennel name, logo, and contact information, along with an optional introduction about your program. The goal is not to replace the guidance breeders already provide, but to give puppy buyers a clear, consistent training framework they can refer back to throughout the first year.
These custom editions can be distributed digitally to puppy buyers or ordered as printed spiral-bound manuals that can be sent home with each puppy.
Breeders interested in a kennel-branded version are welcome to reach out to discuss customization options and licensing.
