About LakeHaus Kennels

LakeHaus Kennels is a small, purpose-driven preservation breeding program based in Alaska. While German Shorthaired Pointers remain the primary focus, every dog here is selected and evaluated with the same commitment to health, temperament, structure, and purpose.

LakeHaus GSP

How It All Began

My journey with German Shorthaired Pointers began in 2009 in a way I never expected.

My first GSP, Hank, came to me as a foster — a breed so unfamiliar at the time that I had to look it up in a dog encyclopedia. I fell hard for the breed almost immediately.

Losing Hank at just three and a half years old to health issues was devastating

A few years later, I brought home Murphy. At the time, I didn’t know what to look for in a responsible breeder, and he came from a program that didn’t prioritize health testing or temperament. Murphy also developed serious health problems and passed away before his fourth birthday..

Those early experiences were painful, but they shaped everything that came next. They taught me how critical health testing, sound breeding practices, and stable temperaments truly are — not in theory, but in real life. More than anything, they gave me a clear sense of purpose: to make sure families who love this breed don’t have to go through what I did.

The Program Today

That purpose led to the founding of LakeHaus Kennels, with a focus on breeding German Shorthaired Pointers that are healthy, well-adjusted, and capable of excelling in a variety of roles — as companions, hunters, and competitors — while living long, full lives.

Since our first litter in 2020, dogs bred by LakeHaus have gone on to earn accomplishments across multiple venues, including:
  • Multiple Best in Specialty Show winners
  • NOHS Best Show Winners
  • Multiple group-placing dogs
  • Multiple NOHS Group Winners
  • 11 AKC Champions and 6 Grand Champions
  • Junior Hunter titles and Senior/Master Qualifying Passes
  • Multiple NAVHDA Prize I, II and III scores
  • Multiple dogs titled in Rally and Obedience
  • And many dogs thriving as performance partners, personal hunting dogs, and valued family companions

Looking Forward

LakeHaus Kennels began with German Shorthaired Pointers and they remain the heart of the program. However, my passion for purpose-bred dogs extends beyond a single breed.

In 2026, I welcomed my first Redbone Coonhound and began a new journey exploring the unique history, instincts, and versatility of the coonhound breeds. While this project is still in its early stages, I look forward to pursuing conformation, tracking, scent work, and other activities that celebrate the breed's heritage.

Like everything at LakeHaus Kennels, this adventure will be approached thoughtfully, with an emphasis on soundness, temperament, and preserving the qualities that make these dogs special.

We are proud to be the only German Shorthaired Pointer Breeder of Merit in Alaska and the only breeder in the state completing all health testing recommended by the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America.

More importantly, our goal is to produce German Shorthaired Pointers that are healthy, functional, and capable of thriving in the real world — whether that's as hunting partners, performance dogs, or beloved family companions.

If you're seeking a thoughtfully bred German Shorthaired Pointer built to work, live well, and hold up over time, LakeHaus Kennels may be the right fit.
